If you haven’t heard of our little kiwifruit, come lassie from Lennox then you are about to. Juniper Harper is 14 years young, born in NZ but lived the last few years in the idyllic coastal location that is Lennox Head. Juniper is a fresh feeling nature name, a small evergreen shrub with lots of energy, also derived from a Latin word, meaning young. Pretty much sums Juniper up in a nutshell. Not only can she smash the lip on a wave, she can serenade you with a sweet song whilst playing the electric guitar and is into all things art and design. We asked her a few questions so you can get to know her and watch as she grows and evolves like the evergreen.
How long have you been surfing for?
I started surfing when I was around four years old and was instantly hooked, but I didn’t start competing until I was about 11 years old so it’s still very fresh, new, and exciting and I am constantly learning! I have grown up in a beach loving family, our life and where we live has always revolved around the beach and surfing. I love music, singing, playing the guitar and art and design.
What is your earliest memory of surfing?
Surfing The Pass Byron on a longboard with dad around 5 years old. There is something so special about that wave, the energy it has, how long you can ride a wave for and the people around you.
Name your greatest achievement?
It would definitely be winning the U14 State Titles in 2020 and joining the Billabong team the year before. It’s always been a dream; I’ve always had Billabong posters on my walls and look up to all the girls on the Billabong team.

To be travelling the world on the professional tour and gaining lots of opportunities with my surfing, experiencing new things and having fun along the way.

What does a typical weekend look like for you?
Surfing twice a day for most of the day, playing music and hanging with my friends and family!
Who are your biggest inspirations?
Steph Gilmore, Coco Ho and Kelia Moniz. I just love everything about them, their surfing, their style, the way that they are professional but also know how to have fun and always smiling.
As soon as the world reopens, where is the first place you would want to travel?
Mexico! For all the tacos, epic waves and Spanish culture!

Everything! I love so much different music.

All my bikinis, especially the Hike bikini bottoms. They just make your legs look super long and lean. And I love a good bralette top that you can wear
