NICK VASICEK
Stance: Goofy
Achievements: 1st U/18 National Championships ‘05, 2nd Cloud Nine Billabong Invitational 2007.
Vasa has been tearing apart the right points of the Gold Coast since he moved to Coolangatta as a nine year old. Growing up as part of a surfing family in Mooloolaba, Nick first surfed at age four and hasn’t looked back. He first travelled to Bali at age 12, and though he claims to surf better on his backhand, he tamed big Uluwatu at 14, and has since surfed at Pipeline and the Von Zipper Trials at Teahupo’o, where he got through a couple of rounds in the biggest waves seen in years, in 2007. Listing his favourite surfers as Occy “for his power,” Mick Fanning “for his speed” and Jay Phillips “he rips,” it is easy to see his influences. He runs with a gnarly local crew comprising the Cooly Kids, the Dozzas and the Hazzas, and is often a standout. He’s done many seasons in Hawaii, is often seen roaming the various coasts of Bali, and aims to have a future involving as much travel as possible. Once he’s caned his final year on the Junior Series he plans to take a few years off to polish his act, then embark on a full-on assault of the WQS. Best of luck Vasa, you’ll smash ‘em.
