Billabong’s Laurie Towner has done a lot of good things during his 22-years on this fine
earth.

He’s paddled into what was considered wave of the season in Hawaii as a 19-year-old,
he’s paddled into arguably the largest ever paddle wave at Shipstern Bluff in Tasmania,
he’s won the Surfer Poll “Heavy Water” award, he’s taken out ASP pro junior events,
towed huge Teahupoo and late last year ticked another box by towing into monstrous 50ft
Peahi (Jaws) in Hawaii.

But last night, in a wild ceremony in Sydney, Lozza secured the best result of his career
by winning the Oakley/ASL Australian Big Wave Awards.

He beat fellow Billabong team rider Dean Bowen, along with respected Australian big
wave surfers Alfy Cater, Mark Mathews, Mark Visser, Marti Paradisis and Damon Gunnesson.
He was slung into this monster mid last year at a remote Bombie in the South West of
Western Australia.
